Harlan’s Evan Browning slid into second during Friday’s game against Somerset Christian. The Green Dragons pulled away for a 12-3 win.

The Harlan Green Dragons blew open a close game with a seven-run sixth inning and evened their record at 1-1 with a 12-3 win over visiting Somerset Christian on Friday.
Jared Moore gave up three unearned runs on two hits in five innings, with seven strikeouts and no walks, to earn the win. Noah Lewis pitched two hitless innings in relief with two strikeouts and no walks.
Jaedyn Gist led Harlan’s 14-hit attack with a double and two singles. Evan Browning added a double and single. Moore and Aiden Johnson had two singles each. Donovan Montanaro and Andrew Roark contributed one double each. Dawson Irvin Lewis and Jayden Ward added one single each.
Harlan returns to action Monday at Red Bird.

Harlan County fell to 0-4 on the season with a pair of losses Saturday at Clay County. The Bears lost 10-0 to the host Tigers and 11-6 to Letcher Central.
Brandin Crawford pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk as Clay County rolled to a 10-0 win in five innings.
HCHS stayed close through three inning, trailing 2-0 before Clay scored five times in the fourth inning and three in the fifth to end the game.
Brayden Blakley had a double for the Bears’ only hit.
Karsten Dixon gave up three runs on four hits in three-plus innings on the mound. Liam Garland allowed six runs on six hits with one strikeout and one walk in 1 1/3 innings.
Harlan County had leads of 1-0 in the first inning and 4-2 in the second before the Cougars took control with four runs in the second and fourth innings.
Braydon Burton led the Bears with two singles. Blakley, Will Cassim, Nathan Shepherd and Tristan Cooper added one single each.
Colby Johnson suffered the loss on the mound as he gave up seven runs (two earned) on five hits in 2 1/3 innings. Shepherd allowed four runs on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Shawn Carroll pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings with three strikeouts and one walk.
The 0-4 Bears return to action Monday with a trip to Letcher Central before playing host to Barbourville on Tuesday.
