Letcher rallies with five runs in final two innings to edge Bears

WIll Cassim had a homer and double in Harlan County’s 9-8 loss at Letcher Central.

Harlan County scored the first six runs, but Letcher Central scored the last five in rallying for a 9-8 win Monday in Whitesburg.
All five Letcher runs in the final two innings were unearned as the Bears had four costly errors to open the door for the comeback.
Kaleb Stone had a double and single to lead the Cougars, driving in two runs. Quinton Williams and Aiden Fields had two singles each. Jonah Little added a double and scored three runs. Canaan Harrell, Dawson Kincer and Bray Hall had one single each.
Williams earned the win as he allowed two runs in four innings with seven strikeouts and two walks. Preston Helle pitched the first three innings, giving up two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.
Tristan Cooper started on the mound for the Bears and gave up four runs on four hits with four strikeouts and five walks. Alex Creech allowed five unearned runs on five hits with one strikeout and no walks in two innings. Brayden Blakley gave up one hit as he finished the game.
Will Cassim led the Bears with a three-run homer and double. Jonah Swanner and Braydon Burton had two singles each. Blakley added a double. Cooper had a single and drove in three runs.
