Blair hurls shutout as Lady Bears down Jackson

Harlan County broke a four-game losing streak to open the season as Madison Blair pitched a shutout in the Lady Bears’ 5-0 win Saturday over visiting Jackson County.
Blair struck out four and walked none while giving up four hits.
Jenna Wilson led the HCHS offense with two singles and two RBI. Halle Raleigh, Jade Burton and Halanah Shepherd added one single each.
“On Saturday morning, these girls showed up with a different mindset than what I’ve seen this week,” said Harlan County coach Shelby Burton. “We came out strong in the field against Jackson with Maddy pitching. We fielded the ball clean and cut down our errors significantly. We had a good day with many girls getting us some big hits. They’ve needed that boost of confidence at the plate.”
The Lady Bears fell 19-8 to visiting Lynn Camp later on Saturday.
Shepherd led the Lady Bears with two doubles and a single. Brittleigh Estes added a double and two singles. Wilson contributed three singles. Burton had a double. Lesleigh Brown and Aviya Holcomb added one single each.
Estep, Blair and Katelyn Rogers split mound duty.
HCHS fell 18-1 in five innings on Tuesday at Lee, Va,
Hailey Austin, Wilson and Blair had one single each.
Estep and Rogers saw action on the mound.
The Lady Bears were limited to no hits and lost 16-0 at Thomas Walker, Va., on Tuesday. Blair and Estep saw action on the mound.
