Hailey Austin, pictured in action earlier this season, had two hits on Tuesday in the Lady Bears’ 5-4 loss at Knox Central.

A 16-4 loser at home to Knox Central only two weeks ago, the Harlan County Lady Bears showed progress in the rematch Tuesday in a 5-4 eight-inning loss at Knox Central.
“We’ve made some minor adjustments in the field with our girls and it’s paying off. I’m seeing our girls more focused and settling in defensively,” Harlan County coach Shelby Burton said. “We just played Knox two weeks ago and they beat us at home by 12. Knox is a great team and holding them to five runs in eight innings is a huge gain for us as a team.
Hailey Austin, Jenna Wilson, Halle Raleigh and Jade Burton had two hits each to lead the HCHS offense. Halanah Shepherd added a double. Brittleigh Estep and Riley Maggard contributed one single each. Shepherd drove in two runs, while Raleigh and Estep added one each.
Madison Blair pitched a complete game with four strikeouts and no walks.
Harlan County travels to Lynn Camp on Friday.
