Dragons open district schedule with win at Bell

Dawson Irvin pitched a complete game Monday as Harlan won 6-4 at Bell County.

Dawson Irvin continued his strong first season with the Harlan Green Dragons as he pitched a three-hitter Monday to help the Dragons open their district schedule with a 6-4 win at Bell County.
The junior right-hander struck out 12 and walked three and held the Bobcats without an earned run as Harlan improved to 7-7 overall and 1-0 in district action.
Jaedyn Gist led the Harlan offense with a double and single. Andrew Roark and Jared Moore had two singles each. Aiden Johnson added one single.
Cole Hoskins led the 7-4 Bobcats with a double. Jackson Walters and Ethan Everage added singles.
Evan Browning gave Harlan an early lead as he walked and created his own run by stealing three bases, including home.
The Dragons added another run in the second as Roark and Moore had singles and Johnson walked to load the bases with two outs. Roark scored on an error.
Bell tied the game on a two-run single by Everage in the bottom of the second.
Gist walked in the third inning and gave the Dragons the lead when he scored on an error,
The Dragons added two runs in the fifth inning. Johnson singled and scored on Gist’s double. Gist scored when Montanaro popped out to second base.
Gist singled in the seventh inning and scored the Dragons’ final run on an error.
Hoskins closed the scoring for Bell with an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh.
The two teams will play again Tuesday at Harlan.
