HCHS, Harlan compete in Wizard of Ozz Classic

Brittleigh Estep was the winning pitcher Thursday as the Lady Bears defeated Paintsville 8-5 in the Wizard of Ozz Classic at Letcher Central.

Harlan County and Harlan ran into tough competition over the weekend at Letcher Central High School in the Wizard of Ozz Classic with HCHS losing three of four games and Harlan losing all four its games.

The Lady Bears split two games Thursday, defeating Paintsville 8-5 before falling 11-3 to Belfry.

Jade Burton led HCHS against Paintsville with a double and single. Brittleigh Estep added a double. Madison Blair, Halle Raleigh, Jenna Wilson, Hailey Austin and Halanah Shepherd contributed one single each.

Estep was the winning pitcher as she gave up five hits over five innings while striking out three and walking three.

Estep had two singles and Burton added one in the loss to Belfry. Blair suffered the loss on the mound as she allowed 11 hits while striking out one and walking four.

The Lady Bears fell 16-1 to Letcher Central on Saturday and then lost 7-0 to Clay County in tournament action. No statistics on those two games were available.

Harlan County (6-14) will play host to Middlesboro on Monday at 6 p.m.

Harlan lost 15-0 to Letcher Central and 7-2 to Clay County in Friday action. The Lady Dragons fell 9-2 to Paintsville and 12-2 to Ridgeview, Va., in action Saturday. 

The Lady Dragons lost 11-1 at Cumberland Gap, Tenn., in previously unreported action Thursday.

No statistics were available on any of the games.

Harlan (3-11) will be at home against McCreary Central on Monday.
