Bears’ comeback falls short in loss to Maine team in Coastal Carolina camp

CONWAY, S.C. — After beating teams from North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida on Thursday, the Harlan County Black Bears closed play Friday in the Coastal Carolina Team Camp against Edward Little High School, of Auburn, Maine.
The Bears struggled early as they did Thursday in rallying from halftime deficits twice to win and trailed 30-21 at the break. HCHS took the lead with a 12-0 run in the second half, but the Red Eddies answered and went on to a 55-52 win as a last-second 3-pointer by Maddox Huff was off the mark after he hit two straight earlier to spark the last rally.
Huff finished with 20 points, including 16 in the second half, to lead the Bears. Daniel Carmical added five 3-pointers and 17 points. Jaycee Carter scored six. Hunter Napier tossed in four. Brody Napier and Caleb Johnson added three and two points, respectively, as the Bears fell to 15-6 for the summer.
Harlan County defeated Hazard 38-25 and downed Darlington, S.C., 49-37 to finish 6-2 in junior varsity action for the week.
HCHS will close its summer schedule Tuesday at Whitley County.
