Tri-City advances to District 4 finals with victory over South Laurel

The Tri-City All-Stars celebrated after a win in the District 4 Tournament at Corbin. Tri-City will play Clay County tonight at 7 in the championship game.

The offense come to life early and the defense held on late to give Tri-City an 8-6 victory over South Laurel in the District 4 Tournament (ages 11-12) in Corbin.
Tri-City will take on Clay County tonight at 7 in the finals. It will be the second straight trip to the district finals for Tri-City.
Aly Sherman’s triple to center field scored Lexi Adams and Jordyn Smith to get Tri-City on the board. Lexi Boggs added a two-out RBI single and stole home later in the inning the extend the lead to 4-0 in the first.
Lilly Blair drew a walk and Lexi Adams doubled to reach base in the second inning. Both players scored on Sherman’s hit to the right-center gap to give Tri City a 6-0 advantage.
Tri City added an additional run in the top of the third inning when Boggs scored on a Katie Smith single. South Laurel got their first two runs of the game in the bottom half of the inning courtesy of an inside the park homer by Ryleigh Bretz.
The scored remained the same until the bottom of the fifth inning when South Laurel sent four players across home plate to pull within one run, 7-6, to start the final inning.
In the top of the sixth, Jordyn Smith singled and stole her way around the bases to give Tri-City an insurance run and extend the lead to 8-6. South Laurel’s comeback bid was cut short in the bottom half of the inning as Tri City retired the first three batters to seal the victory.
Boggs had three singles for Tri City. Sherman had a triple, single and four RBI Adams contributed a single and a double, Jordyn Smith had two singles and Katie Smith had a single.
Sherman gave up five hits in a complete-game effort. She struck out three and walked two.
