The Harlan County Black Bears won a three-team tournament on Thursday in Pineville. Team members include, from left: Cole Cornett, Matt Lewis, Brayden Casolari, Alex Creech and Evan Simpson.

Harlan County freshman Brayden Casolari is a perfect three of three in tournaments to start the season, shooting an ever par 36 on Thursday at Pineville to claim medalist honors while leading the Black Bears to the team title with a team score of 165. Corbin was second at 197, and Bell County was third at 200.
“We got the win tonight, but we definitely didn’t play our best. School started back and these guys were tired today,” Harlan County coach Greg Lewis said. “We’ve been thinking our way around the course really well. As has been the case too often though, when we did miss we missed in the worst possible positions. We had the cushion to try a few shots that we normally wouldn’t, and they cost us a few shots. The course was in great shape with the exception of the bunkers. They were a bit difficult and cost us several shots. But as I’ve said all year, I’m very excited about the progress we’ve made. If we keep working and playing the right way out here I think we have potential to have a very special season.“
Harlan County took the top four spots with Cole Cornett shooting a 40 for second place, followed by Alex Creech with a 43 and Matt Lewis with a 46. Evan Simpson rounded out the HCHS contingent with a 54.
The Black Bears return to action Monday at the Harlan Country Club.

Harlan County sophomore Evan Simpson watched his shot in the Bears’ win Thursday at Pineville.
