Harlan County freshman Hailie Hensley competed in a tournament on Thursday in Pineville.

Hailie Hensley represented Harlan County in a tournament on Thursday at Pineville, shooting a 63 to finish 19th out of 26 golfers.
“Watching Hailie play, you don’t believe she only picked up the game a couple months ago. She has tremendous potential to be an outstanding golfer over her next few years of high school,” Harlan County coach Greg Lewis said. “She’s teeing it up against girls that have been playing for most of their lives and she’s hanging right with them. She actually out drove her group a few times tonight, which was very impressive. I love her competitiveness. She’s been doing this a couple months and legitimately feels she should be pulling off the same shots as the ladies she’s playing with.. There’s just things she hasn’t learned and developed yet which cost her shots. Every time she plays, she’s getting better. If she keeps the interest in her game and works at it, she will be a force in this region very soon.”
Corbin won the team title with a 209, one stroke ahead of South Laurel.
Hensley will compete in a tournament on Sept. 8 and Sept. 12 in Pineville. The girls golf regional is set for Sept. 20.
