Lady Dragons fall to Williamsburg in All ‘A’ finals

The Harlan Lady Dragons placed second in the 13th Region All “A” Classic on Saturday at Harlan. The Lady Dragons defeated Pineville and Middlesboro before falling to Williamsburg in the finals.

The Harlan Lady Dragons knocked off Pineville and Middlesboro in the first two rounds but fell one victory short of a 13th Region All “A” Classic title as Williamsburg repeated as champs with a 25-10, 25-22 victory on Saturday at Harlan.
“We were down a player with Marissa Marlowe out due to injury. However, I feel all the girls really stepped up their game during this tournament. I am very proud of all of them and the way they played as a team,” Harlan coach Shawna Cox said.
Emma Owens led the Lady Dragons against Williamsburg with 11 digs and one assist. Ella Farley added nine digs, two kills and one assist. Carley Thomas added nine digs, two kills and one assist. Ava Nunez added nine digs, one service ace and one kill. Annie Hoskins contributed four digs, two kills and one block. Kendyll Blanton and Tess Bryson each added two digs. Carley Jump had one dig.
Harlan advanced to the finals by sweeping past Middlesboro 25-11, 25-11 in the semifinals. No statistics were available.
The Lady Dragons opened the tournament with a 25-11, 19-25, 25-9 victory over Pineville.
Thomas led Harlan with seven aces, five kills, five digs and one block. Farley addd eight digs, two aces and two assists. Ava Nunez had seven digs and five aces. Hoskins added six blocks, three kills and two digs. Owens contributed four digs, one ace and one assist. Campbell Nunez had two digs and one ace. Blanton added three digs. Bryson had one dig.
The 5-6 Lady Dragons travel to Lynn Camp on Monday.

Harlan County fell 25-20, 25-18, 25-19 to visiting Rye Cove, Va., on Saturday. No scoring information was available.
The Lady Bears travel to Pineville on Monday.
