Top seeds move into semifinals of 7-8 county tourney

The favorites rolled into the semifinals of the seventh- and eighth-grade county tournament with a trio of double-digit victories Saturday at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
James A. Cawood defeated Evarts 37-23 in the closest game of the day to start the tournament. Carmen Thomas led the Trojanettes with 13 points, while Lia Kate Carter added nine.
Rheagan Halcomb paced the Lady Cats with 11 points.
Kayleigh Templeton poured in 26 points as Wallins routed Cawood 40-14., Raegan Landa added 10 for the Lady Devils.
Bre Fultz scored seven to lead Cawood.
Brianna Vick scored 13 points and Vanessa Griffith added 11 as Black Mountain defeated Cumberland 41-11.
Ashlynn Williamson led the Lady Skins with five points.
Top-seeded Rosspoint will play James A. Cawood at 5:30 on Tuesday, with Wallins taking on Black Mountain at 7 at JACES. The consolation and championship games will be played Thursday at Harlan County High School.
