Rosspoint, Black Mountain advance to 7-8 county finals

Black Mountain’s Vanessa Griffith drove against Wallins in the county tournament semifinals at James A. Cawood. Griffith scored nine points and had a strong game defensively as the Tigerettes advanced with a 37-31 victory.

Rosspoint and Black Mountain will meet Thursday at 7 for the seventh- and eighth-grade county championship after taking much different paths in the semifinals Tuesday at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Lauren Lewis led a balanced Rosspoint attack with 11 points as the Lady Cats coasted past James A. Cawood 45-12.
Carmen Thomas led the Trojanettes with seven points.
Black Mountain overcame a three-point halftime deficit and the loss of forward Brianna Vick to an injury in the third quarter to pull away for a 37-31 win over Wallins in the nightcap.
Maddie Bennett and Vanessa Griffith each scored nine points to lead the Tigerettes.,
Addison Day scored 12 and Kayleigh Templeton added 10 for the Lady Devils.
The championship game will be played Thursday at 7 at Harlan County High School. Wallins will play JACES at 5:30 in the third-place game.
