Rosspoint, JACES roll into semifinals with blowout victories

Cumberland, Cawood also advance

The top two weeks in the county fifth- and sixth-grade tournament, Rosspoint and James A. Cawood, rolled into the semifinals with blowout victories Saturday at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Rosspoint opened the tournament with a 33-10 rout of Black Mountain. Trey Creech, Hudson Faulkner and Blake Johnson each scored eight to lead the Wildcats
Josiah Madden paced Black Mountain with four points.
Ryan Housley scored 14 to lead Cawood to a 24-19 victory over Wallins.
Mason Howard led the Devils with six points.
Cumberland edged Evarts 36-33 in the most competitive first-round game. Hunter Fuson scored 15 and Bryce Saylor added 14 to lead the Redskins.
Braxton Anglian led the Wildcats with 14 points.
James A. Cawood, the second seed, closed the tournament with a 37-6 win over Green Hills. Andrew Vance scored 16 to lead the Trojans.
Rosspoint will play Cawood on Tuesday at 5:30, followed by James A. Cawood taking on Cumberland. The consolation and championship games are set for Thursday at Harlan County High School.
