The Harlan County track team’s pole vaulters participated in a meet at Leslie County Tuesday evening.

Madison Daniels and Jayce Brown won their divisions.

Daniels, the defending Class 2A Region 5 champion, broke the school record in girls pole vault with a height of 8-6. Brown won with a height of 9-6.

“I’m so excited for Maddie. She’s a hard worker and she deserves a moment like this,” Harlan Count coach Ryan Vitatoe said. “She is at practice every day working and improving, and I’m really proud of her. She has the potential to go much higher before the season ends.”

“I’m really proud of Jayce. His pole snapped in warm up and he had to use a borrowed pole. He still had a great meet and jumped really well. He’s on the cusp of a huge breakout. I really hate the pole broke on him, but I’m really proud of how he responded and competed.”

Harlan County’s next meet will be Friday at Williamsburg.
