Varner’s walkoff hit sends Dragons to win over Hancock County

Harlan’s Jared Moore led off third base in a game earlier this season. Moore was the winning pitcher Thursday as the Dragons rallied for an 8-7 win over Hancock County, Tenn.

Harlan freshman Baylor Varner brought home the tying and winning runs in walkoff style Thursday, delivering a two-run single to send the Green Dragons to an 8-7 win over visiting Hancock County, Tenn.
Jake Brewer opened the inning with a walk and Jaedyn Gist reached on an error before Varner ended the game with his single to center.
Gist led the 8-6 Dragons with two singles. Eli Freyer added a double. Brewer, Varner, Jared Moore, Brody Owens and Matthew Nunez contributed one single each.
Moore earned the win in relief as he allowed two unearned runs on two hits in two innings, with three strikeouts and one walk. Aiden Johnson gave up five runs (one earned) on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
The Dragons return to action Friday at home against Pineville before playing host to Harlan County on Monday.
