Bell County exploded for 43 points in the first quarter and coasted to an 85-16 blowout win Tuesday over visiting Cordia to open the season.
Cameron Hall scored 22 points to lead the Bobcats, who are still playing without two starters with the Bell football team scheduled to play in the 3A state finals on Saturday.
Ethan Buell and Jaxon Thomas added 18 and 14 points, respectively.
“The guys played great last night. Our press was really good. We looked to share the ball in transition and had several guys make open shots,” Bell County coach Brad Sizemore said. “It was really encouraging to see all the kids get the opportunity to come in and contribute in their first varsity game. We have several young players on the roster who will continue to get better as they get more game experience throughout the season. We have a lot of work in front of us if we are going to get to a championship level, but I really like the pieces we have.”
Bell County will play host to Knoxville (Tenn.) Ambassadors on Friday in a girls/boys doubleheader.
