Kyle Jones is off to an impressive start in his first two years as the basketball coach at Harlan County High School.
Jones led the Bears to a 27-6 record and a 52nd District Tournament title in 2023. Harlan County has been even better in 2024, at least so far, as the Bears take a 26-4 mark into next week’s 52nd District Tournament at HCHS.
The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches honored Jones on Friday by naming him the 13th Region Boys Coach of the Year. Jones and the Bears have already played seven games against team’s ranked in the state’s top 235 and have posted a 5-2 mark, including winning three of four games in the King of the Bluegrass tournament and the Arby’s Classic. HCHS is ranked fourth in the state by the RPI system used by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
