HCHS sweeps Middlesboro in district doubleheader

Harlan County’s Riley Key worked down the field against Middlesboro’s Amber Mullins in district action Tuesday. HCHS won 3-0.

Harlan County swept a district soccer doubleheader Tuesday against visiting Middlesboro, winning 3-0 in girls action and 2-0 in the boys game.
Hayley Key had two goals and Kali Blevins added one to lead the Lady Bears. Abigail Gaw, Hailey Gaw and Emily Fultz had one assist each.
Kenzie Crider posted the shutout in goal with seven saves.
Cayden Shanks and Jacob Cooper each had goals for the Bears.
Nick Hunting had the shutout in goal with 10 saves.
Isaac Taulbee and Johnny Brock each had one goal and one assist in the Bears’ 6-4 win Monday over visiting Barbourville. Shanks, Hunter Mefford, Jonathan Akers and David Blas each added one goal. Jacob Coots had an assist.
Hunting allowed four goals but had 10 saves.
The Jackets fell 4-1 to Hazard on Thursday. Tyler Harris had a goal for the Jackets and Blaine Woody recorded 13 goal keeper saves.
The 4-1 Lady Bears return to action Monday at Knox Central. The 3-5 Lady Jackets play host to Bell County on Thursday.
The 4-4 Black Bears close their regular season schedule by traveling to Middlesboro on Monday and Knox Central on Tuesday. The 2-3 Jackets play their final game Monday at home against HCHS.
