Bears advance to district finals with win over Middlesboro
Harlan County’s David Blas advanced the ball with a header during district tournament action last season. The Bears will play Middlesboro on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the district tournament at Barbourville.

The Harlan County boys soccer team moved to within one victory of the first district championship in school history with a 3-1 win over Middlesboro on Tuesday in the 50th District Tournament at the James A. Cawood field.
“I’m proud of the effort the kids showed. I hope we can carry that same effort on Thursday,” Harlan County coach Tommy Key said. “A district title would be big for the program.”
Jacob Cooper, Hunter Mefford and Haiden Mefford each had one goal for the 5-4 Black Bears. Nick Hunting recorded six saves.
The Yellow Jackets ended the season with a 2-5 record.
Harlan County will play Knox Central on Thursday at 7:30 in the championship game.
