Brian Williams, a former Middlesboro and University of Kentucky standout, is out after two seasons as the head coach of the Harlan football program.
The Dragons posted a 3-19 mark over two years, falling to 1-10 last season as they were outscored 469-50.
“We are grateful for coach Williams’ time and effort he invested in our student-athletes and our program,” Harlan Independent Schools Superintendent Jennifer Parsons said in a press release. “After careful consideration, we believe a new direction will best support the continued development and success of our team moving forward.”
A committee is being formed to lead the hiring process of the next coach. Frank Shope has been named interim coach. Shope is an administrator in the district and is a former star linebacker for the Dragons who went on to play at the University of the Cumberlands.
