Dragons defeat Thomas Walker, fall to Knox Central

Knox Central’s Isaac Mills slid into second base ahead of throw to Evan Browning in Monday’s game. The visiting Panthers scored three runs in the seventh inning to edge Harlan 6-3.

Harlan split a doubleheader Monday at home, coasting past Thomas Walker, Va., 12-2 in six innings in the opener before falling 6-3 to Knox Central in a game that wasn’t decided until the Panthers scored three runs in the seventh inning to break a tie.
Evan Browning pitched a four-hitter in the opening game, striking out nine and walking none.
Ethan Cornett led the Dragons against Thomas Walker with a a double and single. Jared Moore singled twice. Evan Browning and Shane Lindsey added one triple each. Jeremiah Mills, John Mark Bryson, Andrew Roark and Noah Lewis had one single each.
Harlan led 2-0 early against Knox Central before the Panthers scored three runs in the third inning. The Dragons pulled even with a run in the fifth inning and the game remained tied until Central scored three runs in the final inning.
Lindsey and Cornett led Harlan on offense with two singles each. Jaedyn Gist had a double. Browning, Mills, Bryson and Moore added one single each.
Moore gave up three runs on one hit 2 1/3 innings. Bryson allowed three unearned runs on three hits on 4 1/3 innings. Noah Lewis recorded the final out on a strikeout.
Harlan (10-16) plays host to Letcher Central on Friday.
