Blakley, Cassim lead Bears to win over Knox

Harlan County freshman first baseman Will Cassim, pictured in action earlier this season, drove in both runs as HCHS edged Knox Central 2-1 on Tuesday.

Brayden Blakley pitched a one-hitter and Will Cassim had two RBI singles as Harlan County earned one of its most impressive wins of the season with a 2-1 victory Tuesday over visiting Knox Central.
Blakley, a sophomore, struck out seven and walked four and allowed only one unearned run in improving his record to 5-4 as he works back from offseason shoulder surgery.
Cassim, a freshman first baseman, had run-scoring hits in the second and fourth innings to power the HCHS offense. Blakley added a double and single. Nate Shepherd and Issac Kelly had one single each.
Brady Worley pitched a complete game for Knox Central, giving up two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Ethan Mills had the only hit for the 13-10 Panthers.
Harlan County (11-19) closes its regular season schedule Friday at home against Clay County.

Harlan County suffered its second shutout loss to Whitley County, falling 10-0 on Friday.
Grant Zehr pitched a three-hitter for the Colonels with four strikeouts and one walk.
Josh Swanner, Zac Collett and Blakley each had singles for the Bears.
Bryce Anderson led Whitley on offense with a triple and two singles and three runs scored.
Karsten Dixon suffered the loss as he gave up six runs on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Alex Creech gave up four runs in 2/3 of an inning. Samuel Henson retired both batters he faced.
