Leslie County stayed alive in tournament competition and advanced to a game against Harlan on Sunday for second place and a berth in the District 4 Tournament with a 4-3 win over Tri-City.
Jacob Rice pitched a complete for for Leslie County with two strikeouts and no walks.
Gavin Lloyd and Hayden Cornett led Tri-City on offense with two doubles each. Carson Clark added a double. Byron Shepherd contributed a single.
Lloyd struck out seven and walked five in 2 2/3 innings. Clark struck out six and walked none in 2 1/3 innings.
“I thought the boys bounced back and played well today. The whole lineup was putting it in play. Leslie just made the plays when they had to,” Tri-City coach Stephen Creech said. “Our downfall was a few early walks and our inability to catch the pitches after those walks. I’m proud of their performance though. We only had five practices before we started playing. Most of these boys will be back next year, so I’m looking forward to that.”
