Harlan’s Marissa Marlowe went to the net to finish a point against Middlesboro earlier this season. The Lady Bears defeated Middlesboro again on Tuesday and will play host to Bell County on Monday and Harlan County on Tuesday.

Harlan County lost four times over the weekend in the First Priority Lady Colonel Volleyball Classic in Williamsburg. The Lady Bears fell 25-15, 25-12 to Pulaski County, 25-9, 25-21 to Anderson County, 25-17, 25-10 to Knox Central and 25-5, 25-7 to Whitley County.
Harlan County had won five straight matches before suffering three straight losses, to Bell County, North Laurel and Letcher Central, due to covid cancelations. The Lady Bears hadn’t played since defeating Middlesboro on Sept. 14.
Harlan won its previous three matches, a covid forfeit over Barbourville on Sept. 18, followed by a 25-15, 25-17, 28-26 win on Sept. 21 at Middlesboro and then a 14-25, 25-17, 25-20, 19-25, 15-7 win on Sept. 23 at home against Pineville.
Kendyll Blanton led the Lady Dragons against Middlesboro with three service aces, five assists, three blocks and two kills. Emma Owens added three aces and three assists. Annie Hoskins had two aces, four assists, one dig, one block and two kills. Campbell Nunez added one ace, three digs and one kill. Marisssa Marlowe had one ace, two assists and two kills. Mallory McNiel contributed three assists and two kills. Doneisha Harriston added four assists. Ella Farley had two digs and one assist. Ava Nunez added two assists. Bailee Maples had one kill. Tess Bryson added one assist.
Hoskins led Harlan against Pineville with six service aces, three digs, three assists, four kills and three blocks. Carley Thomas added seven aces. Owens had six digs, six assists and one ace. Marlowe added four kills, three assists, one ace and one block. Farley had five digs and one assist. Campbell Nunez contributed three digs and one assist. Bryson had three digs. McNiel added one dig and one assist. Blanton had one ace and one kill. Maples added one dig.
Harlan (7-6) will play host to Bell County on Monday and Harlan County on Tuesday to close its district schedule. The Lady Dragons’ final match of the regular season is set for Oct. 5 at home against Lynn Camp.
Harlan County (5-8) will travel to Harlan on Tuesday and play host to Bell County on Thursday to close district action.
