Black Mountain, Wallins, JACES earn first-round wins

Black Mountain, Wallins and James A. Cawood were all blowout winners on Saturday in the first round of the fifth- and sixth-grade county tournament at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Jayla Dillman scored nine points and Madalyn Bennett added eight as Black Mountain downed Cawood 23-11.
Riley Clem led the Lady Comets with seven points.
Kylee Runions poured in 15 points as Wallins overpowered Evarts 26-1.
Addy Davis scored 10 and Carmen Gamboa added eight as the Trojanettes defeated Cumberland 39-4.
Top-seeded Rosspoint will play Black Mountain at 5:30 and James A. Cawood will play Wallins at 7 in the semifinals on Tuesday at JACES. The championship and consolation games will be played Thursday at Harlan County High School.
