Dragons edge Wayne for fifth-straight victory

Harlan’s Jaedyn Gist, pictured in action earlier this season, scored 11 points in the Dragons’ 66-64 win Tuesday at Wayne County.

Harlan extended its win streak to five and Wayne County’s losing streak to five with a 66-64 win Tuesday over the host Cardinals in the Monticello Bank Classic.
Senior guard Jordan Akal hit six 3-pointers and finished with 28 points to lead the Dragons. Kaleb McLendon added four 3-pointers and scored 12 points. Jaedyn Gist chipped in with 11 points.
Wayne County (4-7) was led by junior guard Mason Burchett with 19 points and senior guard Gage Gregory with 15.
Harlan (8-4) will play Clay County, Tenn., on Wednesday at noon in the second day of play at the Monticello Bank Classic.
