Dragons overcome slow start, advance in state All ‘A’

Harlan guard Jordan Akal hit 10 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter as the Green Dragons rallied for a win over Campbellsville in the state All “A” Classic.

 

Held to single digits in each of the first three quarters, the Harlan Green Dragons caught fire just in time Thursday in the first round of the state All “A” Classic and in the process ended a seven-year first-round losing streak for the 13th Region with a 47-41 victory over Campbellsville.
Senior guard Jordan Akal sparked the comeback as he scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the final period, connecting on 10 of 11 free throws in the quarter. Kaleb McLendon also scored 15 for the 14-7 Dragons, hitting five 3-pointers.
Jay Milburn scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead Campbellsville, the champions of the 5th Region.
The Green Dragons were limited to 25 percent shooting for the game but connected on six of nine shots in the final quarter.
Harlan will play Bracken County on Friday at 8 p.m. in the tournament quarterfinals.
