Favorites advance to semifinals in 5-6 county tournament

The top four seeds rolled into the semifinals of the county fifth- and sixth-grade tournament with opening-round wins Saturday at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Top-seeded James A. Cawood downed Green Hills 41-14 as Logan Smith paced the Trojans with 14 points.
Brayden Lucas Huff scored all 14 for the Falcons.
Wallins, seeded second, downed Black Mountain 42-18 as Ryan Day scored 15 and Eli Noe added 11 for the Purple Devils.
Noah Whitaker led Black Mountain with 11 points.
Third-seeded Evarts downed Cawood 34-7. Dakota Maggard scored 15 and Brenton Bargo added 13 for the Wildcats.
Masyn Stewart led Cawood with six points.
Rosspoint, seeded fourth, defeated Cumberland 30-16 as Hayston Hensley led the Cats with 11 points.
Hayden Grace paced Cumberland with nine points.
James A. Cawood will play Rosspoint at 5:30 and Evarts will take on Wallins at 7 in semifinal action Monday at JACES. The championship and consolation games are set for Saturday at Harlan County High School.
