Rosspoint, JACES are semifinal winners in county tourney

Rosspoint and James A. Cawood each pulled away down the stretch and earned spots in Thursday’s seventh- and eighth-grade county championship games with semifinal victories Tuesday at James A. Cawood Elementary School.
Rosspoint defeated Evarts 30-23 in the opening semifinal as Jayce Brown scored nine and Cole Cornett added seven to lead Rosspoint.
Cawood cut the James A. Cawood lead two in the third quarter before the Trojans regained control with the help of a pair of 3-pointers from Kaden Jones on the way to a 41-30 victory.
Landon Brock, a seventh-grade guard, led the Trojans with 17 points. Jones and Brennan Blevins added 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Brady Smith led the Comets with nine points.
Cawood will play Evarts in the third-place game on Thursday at 5:30. Rosspoint and JACES will play at 7:30 in the championship game.
