Black Bears rally past Perry, Barbourville

Harlan County guard Jonah Swanner looked for an opening in scrimmage action Friday against Barbourville. Swanner scored six in a win against Barbourville and 26 in a victory over Perry Central.

Trailing by one at halftime of two scrimmages Friday at home, the Harlan County Black Bears rallied both times to improve to 6-1 on the summer. HCHS defeated Perry Central 73-68 and Barbourville 65-58.
Junior guard Jonah Swanner sparked the Bears against Perry, scoring 24 of his 26 points in the second half. Sophomore guard Maddox Huff scored 15 in the first half and 13 in the second to finish with a team-high 28 points. Daniel Carmical added 11 points. Jaycee Carter scored four. Ethan Rhymer and Jared Rhymer added two each.
Huff scored 24 to lead the Bears against Barbourville. Carmical added 23 points on seven 3-pointers. Swanner, Carter and Caleb Johnson contributed six points each.
Harlan County fell twice in junior varsity action, losing 85-63 to Perry Central and 61-42 to Barbourville.
Freshman forward Hunter Napier scored 27 points and sophomore guard Ethan Simpson added 18 against Perry Central. Reggie Cottrell and Brennan Blevins tossed in six points each. Terry Michael Delaney, Shemar Carr and Ethan Shuler scored two each.
Delaney and Simpson scored 12 points each against Barbourville. Napier added six. Cottrell and Carr each scored four. Taelor Haywood and Blevins added two each.
Harlan County returns to action Monday in Corbin.
