Bears sweep teams from three states in Coastal Carolina camp

CONWAY, S.C. — Harlan County defeated teams from three states on Thursday in the second day of play at the in the Coastal Carolina Team Camp.
Daniel Carmical supplied the offense from behind the 3-point line and Maddox Huff took over inside the line as Harlan County knocked off Laney, N.C., 47-40 in its first scrimmage..Harlan County trailed Michael Jordan’s former team 23-19 at halftime before going on a 13-0 run to open the second half, sparked by three 3-pointers from Carmical, who finished with 22 points. Huff hit five free throws down the stretch and finished with 20 points. Jaycee Carter rounded out the scoring for the Bears with five points.
Carmical and Huff scored 21 each as Harlan County coasted to a 73-48 win over Carvers Bay, S.C., in the second scrimmage of the day. The Bears featured more balance in this win as coach Kyle Jones went to his reserves for much of the second half. Hunter Napier and Caleb Johnson added 11 points each. Brody Napier chipped in with three. Jaycee Carter, Terry Michael Delaney and Evan Simpson scored two each.
Harlan County rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to defeat Ferguson, from Miami, Fla., 53-48. Huff scored 22 points and Carmical added 16 to lead the Bears. Carter added 15 points, including seven of seven free throws in the final couple of minutes.
The Bears, 15-5 on the summer, will play its final game at Coastal Carolina on Friday at 11 a.m.
Harlan County won two of three in junior varsity action, defeating Hoggard and Carvers Bay, sandwiched around a loss to North Charleston.
