Harlan All-Stars fall to Knox in battle for berth in district final four

Andrew Vance struck out nine in four innings on the mound and also led the Harlan All-Stars at the plate with a triple and single in a loss to Knox County on Wednesday in the DIstrict 4 Tournament.

HAZARD — The Harlan All-Stars’ bid for a spot in the final four in the District 4 Tournament fell one game short as Harlan lost 11-5 to Knox County on Wednesday in the game for second place in the East Division.
Easton Ramsey drove in five runs on a homer, double and single to lead Knox while earning the win on the mound. Ramsey struck out 12 and walked two while giving up three hits in five innings.
Andrew Vance led the Harlan All-Stars with a triple and single. Cooper Thomas had a double. Win Cooper and Zach Boggs each added singles.
Vance pitched four-plus innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. Cooper allowed one run in one-third inning on the mound. Carter Caldwell allowed three runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings.
John Troxell also had a big game for Knox with a triple and two singles while recording the final three outs on the mound.
Hazard/Perry won the Eastern Division tourney and will advance to the District 4 final four along with Knox. Harlan finished 2-2 in tournament competition with two losses to Knox.

A three-run homer by Win Cooper highlighted a seven-run third inning for the Harlan All-Stars as they broke a 2-2 tie on the way to a 7-2 win over Pineville/Bell in the District 4 Tournament East Division (ages 11-12) on Tuesday at the Perry County Park.
Cooper also had a triple for the Harlan All-Stars as part of a five-hit attack. Zach Boggs added a double and single with two RBI. Myles Jenkins added a single with two RBI.
Bryson Kelly struck out five in 4 2/3 innings on the mound to earn the win. Andrew Vance recorded one out. Carter Caldwell struck out three as he pitched the final inning.
Harlan will play Knox County on Wednesday at 6 to determine second place and the final berth in next week’s four-team District 4 Tournament.
