A cheerleader for seven years at Harlan County High School, Ally Alred wasn’t ready to give up the sport as she planned to move on to college. Alred will continue as a member of one of the nation’s top squads after being selected to cheer at Morehead State University. She was the only female freshman to make the coed squad, which has won 28 national titles.
“Ally is an extremely talented cheerleader with elite stunting skills for a high school senior. She is someone who has been coming to Morehead clinics for some time and has been training tirelessly with one of our MSU cheer alumni to prepare for this season,” said Morehead coach Mark Coleman. “Ally’s dedication and desire to cheer at MSU have been remarkable. We are super excited to have her be a part of our Morehead cheer family, and I cannot wait to see all that she accomplishes in the next four years!”
As one of the valedictorians of her senior class, Alred finished with a 4.0 grade point average and was a Governor’s Scholar after her junior year. She received numerous other awards in high school, both in cheerleading and academics, including being selected as a princess candidate for the Mountain Laurel Festival and serving in the high school student congress in Lexington.
“Ally is not only an excellent athlete, but an exceptional student as well. She will definitely be an asset to the Morehead State cheerleading program,” said HCHS cheerleading coach Holly Alred.
Alred plans to major in English literature on a prelaw track at Morehead. She considered several other cheerleading programs before choosing Morehead.
“I would like to thank everyone who has helped me to reach my goal. I could never thank you enough for the selflessness that you’ve shown me along the way,” said Ally Alred. “I am excited to join such a prestigious program as the 28 time national coed championship Morehead State cheerleading team. I am so beyond grateful for the blessings God has placed in my path and cannot wait to see what this next chapter holds.”
