The Harlan County offense showed some signs of life after three weeks of slumber and junior pitcher Jesse Gilbert posted his second straight strong start as the Bears won 7-3 on Monday at Shelby Valley.
Gilbert gave up five hits while striking out nine and walking three as he pitched a complete game.
Kayden Adams led the HC offense with a double, two singles and two RBI. Gilbert singled twice. Carson Clark, Gage Burkhart and Zayden Casolari added one single each.
Harlan County built a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and fourth innings, but the Wildcats scored three in the fifth. The Bears answered with three in the sixth inning as Burkhart reached on an error before Casolari and Adams followed with RBI hits.
Clark was safe on an error and Gilbert singled in the seventh inning as the Bears added two insurance runs.
