Green Dragons avenge loss to Cumberland
Harlan improved its record to 3-1 and avenged its only loss with a 2-1 win over Cumberland on Thursday in middle school baseball action.
Zach Boggs and Brantley McArthur teamed on a six-hitter. Boggs earned the win as he allowed one run on four hits in four innings with four strikeouts and five walks. McArthur gave up two hits and struck out two in two shutout innings to earn the save.
Cooper Thomas led the Harlan offense with two singles. Boggs, Derrick Holman and I. Noe added one single each.
Harlan returns to action Tuesday at home against Corbin.
Caldwell, Mackowiak team on 2-hitter as Bears win
Carter Caldwell and Jackson Mackowiak teamed on a two-hitter as Harlan County defeated visiting Middlesboro 5-1 on Friday in middle school baseball action.
Caldwell struck out one over four innings. Mackowiak fanned four in two innings.
Andrew Vance led the Bears offense with two doubles and a single. Myles Jenkins, Mackowiak and Logan Mills had two singles each. Gabriel Helton and Hunter Coker added one single each.
Zach Patterson and Bentley Owens had hits for Middlesboro.
Burgan fires no-hitter as Lady Dragons open with victory
Adeylnn Burgan pitched a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and one walk as Harlan opened its middle school softball schedule with a 17-0 rout of Lynn Camp in three innings.
Chrissy Saylor led the Lady Dragons on offense with three singles. Addyson Patton had a triple and double. Lilly Daniels added a double and single. Burgan singled twice. Arianna Raleigh had a double. Taylor Glenn and Jordyn Shackleford contributed singles.
Harlan returns to action Saturday in a tournament at Campbellsville.
