
BENHAM — The Tri City All Stars scored two runs in each of the final two innings and had the potential winning run at the plate when the final out was recorded in Knox County’s 7-5 win Saturday in the District 4 Tournament East at the Benham field.
Hutton Sherman led the Tri City offense with a double and single from the leadoff spot. Truett Baldwin, Ashton Howard, Detan Hall, Jevonte Stewart and Julian Simpson added one single each.
Tripp Taylor led Knox with two singles. Gunner Graggs added a double. Hudson Butler and Gunner Carnes had one single each,
Brennan Brock came on to pitch in the first inning and gave up five runs on three hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in 4 2/3 innings. Keagan Caudill started and allowed two runs on one hit in one-third of an inning. Sherman allowed one run on one hit with a strikeout in one inning.
Sherman’s speed produced the first Tri City run as he doubled, took third on a wild pitch and stole home when the Knox pitcher turned his back on his way back to the mound.
Simpson had an RBI hit in Tri City’s two-run fifth inning. Sherman, Baldwin and Smith had hits in a two-run sixth that ended with a strikeout with runners on first and second.
Knox County will play MPB (Middlesboro-Pineville-Bell) on Sunday at 7 p.m. with the winner playing the Harlan-Hazard/Perry loser on Monday for second place in the east division. Harlan will play Hazard/Perry at 5 p.m. for the division championship and a berth in the district final four. Tri City was eliminated with its second loss.
