Trojans split opening two games of regular season
James A. Cawood splits two opening games in seventh- and eighth-grade basketball action with a 36-35 win over Southern Pulaski at South Laurel and a. 39-27 loss Thursday at Letcher.
Taylor Daniels scored 13 and Adrian Fields added 10 against Southern Pulaski.
Brantley Burkhart led the Trojans with 13 points against Letcher.
The JACES seventh-grade team fell 44-41 to South Laurel desire 25 points from Tucker Daniels.

Bears fall to Meece in state final four playoffs
Perhaps the best fifth- and sixth-grade football season in county history came to an end Saturday with a 34-8 loss to Somerset Meece in the state final four at Somerset.
Brady White scored the only touchdown for the Bears on a 60-yard run after Weston Nolan completed a short pass to Jase Wynn who tossed the ball to White. Carson Clark added the two-point conversion.
Harlan County ended the season with a 13-1 record, winning the Region 4 title with playoff victories over Pikeville, Betsy Layne and Johnson Central.
