
Harlan County split two games Saturday in the 13th Region Freshman Tournament at North Laurel, edging Middlesboro 39-36 in overtime before falling 40-20 to North Laurel in the semifinals.
Middlesboro guard John Hayes forced overtime when he hit his fourth 3-pointer with 7.8 seconds left. Harlan County’s Hudson Faulkner put the Bears ahead to stay in overtime when he scored off a missed free throw. Andrew Vance and Trey Creech each hit free throws to clinch the win.
Creech scored 13 and Easton Engle added nine for the Bears. Faulkner and Carson Sanders scored six each. Vance added five.
Hayes led the Jackets with 15 points. Emmitt Butler scored nine, followed by Caden Lawson with six and Brooklyn Huff and Mitchell Capps added two each.
Rylan Robbins scored 17 and Ryder Davidson added 12 for the Jaguars. Easton George chipped in with five, while Colter Elza and Jaxson Asher added three each.
Faulkner led HC with seven points. Engle scored five. Creech tossed in three. Nathan Barger and Sanders scored two each. Vance added one.
Harlan County finished the season with a 4-4 record.
