The Harlan Green Dragons had impressive performances Thursday at Williamsburg as they competed in the Class A, Region 6 meet.
Both teams had strong finishes, with the Lady Dragons placing sixth with 25 points and the Dragons finishing seventh with 28 points.
“Yesterday was a big meet for the kids,” Harlan track coach Trent McKenzie said. “We had so many new kids that had never competed in a regional meet before, so it was new to them.”
Middlesboro’s boys won with 137 points. Leslie County’s girls won with 177 points.
To lead the boys, Tanner Daniels won the 800-meter run. Daniels also placed second in the 1,600-meter run.
Hunter Brock placed 14th in the 100-meter dash.
In the 200-meter dash, Brock was 10th. Payton Glenn finished 17th.
Carter White placed 15th in the 800-meter run.
Cruz Galloway finished 10th in the 1,600-meter run.
White was 10th in the 3,200-meter run.
Gibson Wilder finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles.
In the 300-meter hurdles, Wilder was sixth. Murtaza Hussain finished 11th.
Izack Saylor placed second in high jump.
In shot put, Logan Thompson placed 14th.
Michael Lindsey was 23rd in discus.
Harper Carmical led the girls, finishing second in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter run. Carmical also placed third in the 800-meter run.
Talae Manning placed 21st in the 100-meter dash.
Cora Jones finished ninth in the 1,600-meter run and sixth in the 3,200-meter run.
In high jump, Gwendolyn Toll placed fourth.
Amelia Bryant placed 15th in shot put and 18th in discus.
“They did great,” McKenzie said. “We had a ton of PRs and we have three (Tanner Daniels, Izack Saylor and Harper Carmical) with automatic bids for the state meet at University of Kentucky next weekend.
“This season was a great season and the turnover we saw from the first of the year to now was incredible.”
