
MANCHESTER — The Harlan County Lady Bears overcame a pair of slow starts Monday to knock off two of the 13th Region’s top teams at Clay County High School with a 58-55 victory over Corbin followed by a 45-27 win against Whitley County to improve to 16-1 on the summer.
Corbin jumped out to a 16-3 lead after one quarter, and the Lady Bears trailed 27-19 at halftime before opening the second half with a 20-10 run. Reagan Clem hit two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and Jaycee Simpson added one with two free throws as the Lady Bears held on for the win.
Clem scored 21 points to lead the Lady Bears. Simpson added 15 points and eight assists. Taylynn Napier contributed 12 points. Raegan Landa tossed in six. Kenadee Sturgill and Shasta Brackett scored two each.
Clem tossed in 12 and Napier added 11 in the win over Whitley County. Simpson and Sturgill scored nine each. Landa and Andrea Napier added two each.
Harlan County rolled to a 44-18 win over Whitley County in junior varsity action.
Eighth grade forward Crissalyn Jones led the Lady Bears with 12 points. Andrea Napier scored nine, followed by Natalie Moore with eight, Khloe Carr with seven, and Jocelyn Miracle and Morgyn Belcher with four each.
