
HAZARD — The Harlan County Lady Bears’ 14-game summer win streak came to a screeching halt Tuesday against the two squads that will likely be ranked at the top of the 14th Region next season.
The Lady Bears struggled offensively as they fell 39-25 to Knott Central and 48-26 to Hazard.
Harlan County trailed 16-8 at halftime against Knott, but battled back to take a brief lead on Reagan Clem’s 3 before going cold again.
Clem scored 10 to lead the Lady Bears. Taylynn Napier tossed in five, and Jaycee Simpson and Raegan Landa each scored four. Kenadee Sturgill added two.
The Lady Bears led 21-18 at halftime against Hazard but were limited to five points in the second half. Simpson scored nine and Sturgill added eight to lead HC. Napier and Landa added four and three points, respectively, with Landa contributing two.
Harlan County rolled to a 42-13 win over Hazard in junior varsity action.
Eighth grade forwards Jocelyn Miracle and Crissalyn Jones scored 18 and 16 points, respectively, to lead the Lady Bears. Natalie Moore scored six, and Andrea Napier added two.
Harlan County closes its summer schedule Thursday at Harlan.
