HYDEN — A young Harlan squad that lost four starters from last year’s squad threw quite a scare into one of the 14th Region’s top teams on Monday in summer basketball action at Leslie County High School.
Harlan led 26-17 against Owsley County before a late 11-2 run tied the scrimmage at 28-28. Senior center Kamilla Marcum scored in the closing seconds of regulation then ended the game in sudden-death overtime with a basket to give Owsley a 30-28 win.
Junior guard Addison Campbell, the Lady Dragons’ only returning starter, led Harlan with eight points. Addison Sanford and Addy Cochran each tossed in seven. Addy Patton, Talae Taylor and Lilly Daniels scored two each.
Campbell scored nine and Daniels added seven to lead Harlan in a 48-28 loss to Leslie County. Cochran tossed in six. Patton, Taylor and Chloe Abner scored two each.
Harlan fell 26-15 to Leslie County in junior varsity action.
The Lady Dragons return to action Thursday at Bell County.
