MANCHESTER — A strong finish a year ago is carrying over into the summer for the Harlan Green Dragons, who earned a pair of two-point wins Wednesday in a team camp at Clay County High School.
The Green Dragons overcame an early deficit in the opening game to edge Clay County 55-53. Both teams were missing key players as Harlan played without junior guard Izack Saylor and Clay was without senior forward Adon Grubb as the Tigers have split their squad for summer games.
Harlan fell behind early once again in its second scrimmage against Knox Central before fighting back to win 50-48 on a basket by junior forward Kobe Noe with six-tenths of a second to play.
Senior forward Legend Mimes scored 17 and Noe added 14 to lead a balanced Harlan attack. Braxton Rowe scored nine, followed by Elie Noe with five, Ethan Huff with three and Jaxson Perry with two.
In games at Whitley County earlier this week, the Dragons fell 63-59 to Whitley and defeated Perry Central 82-62.
Harlan returns to action Thursday at Barbourville.
